UK Home Secretary Suella Braverman Warns of “Mass Migration Hurricane”

UK Home Secretary Suella Braverman

Manchester, United Kingdom | 03 Oct 2023 (Global Pro Group) – In a bold speech at the Conservative Party’s annual conference in Manchester, UK Home Secretary Suella Braverman issued a stark warning about an impending “hurricane” of mass migration hitting the United Kingdom. Braverman, known for her conservative stance and potential future leadership aspirations, criticized immigration, identity politics, and what she referred to as the “luxury beliefs” held by progressives.

Braverman, whose parents immigrated to the UK from Kenya and Mauritius in the 1960s, compared the historical migration wave that brought her family to a mere gust compared to the approaching storm.

The wind of change that carried my own parents across the globe in the 20th century was a mere gust compared to the hurricane that is coming,” Braverman told conservative faithfuls attending the conference.

The Home Secretary controversial comments, come days after another bold statement made recently in the US. During a recent visit to Washington, Braverman controversially claimed that “multiculturalism has failed” and called for a new international approach to asylum claims. She has previously supported the idea of deporting asylum seekers to Rwanda and a failed proposal to house 500 asylum seekers on a barge.

In her speech, Braverman also criticized the opposition Labour Party and other critics of her immigration policies, accusing them of promoting “luxury beliefs” from their privileged positions. Her speech received a warm reception from party activists in attendance, although not all agreed with her views, as one activist was removed from the conference hall for expressing dissent over her remarks about “gender ideology.”

The tough rhetoric against illegal migration from the ruling Conservative party has increased in recent weeks, as the United Kingdom is expected to hold general parliamentary elections in 2024.
The latest electoral polls paint a gloomy picture for the ruling majority of conservative prime minister Rishi Sunak. The Conservatives are currently trailing behind the Labour Party by 16 points, according to POLITICO’s Poll of Polls.

Albanians have been at the center of negative political rhetoric in the UK during this past year, as the British Government has been negotiating with the Albanian authorities on returning those who have crossed the border illegally. UK parliamentary figures show that in 2022, more than a quarter of the 45,755 people who crossed the Channel in small boats came from Albania – “and most claimed asylum”. Figures show that the number of Albanians arriving in the UK by this route had gone from 800 in 2021, to 12,301 in 2022.
